With access to the highest level of experience and expertise, 360 Assurance is ideally placed to deliver excellent client services within this sensitive area of contracting activity.

Our PPV service was originally developed to fulfil responsibilities placed upon former health authorities following the publication of the 1996 paper by the Department of Health, ‘Patients Not Paper’. Although this initiative reduced the administrative burden on GP contractors, it made it more challenging for monitoring health bodies to assure the validity of claims for services delivered. The solution to this was the introduction of a rolling programme of Primary Care Post Payment Verification visits to allow services paid for to be validated by reference to practice records.

In response to this, 360 Assurance was among the first to develop both the capability to undertake PPV inspection visits, and the expertise required to examine patient and associated records. Our service has evolved continually over the years to adapt to the changes in GP contracting, and to the changing needs of our clients.

Our PPV services are led by staff formerly employed within primary care, and we conduct PPV visits in all areas of primary care, including optometry. We take pride in fostering excellent relationships with the practitioners we visit, and we are often commended by them for our skills, knowledge and experience.

PPV Case Study

Practice Based Commissioning - Minor General Surgery contract

Following a PCT’s concerns regarding the level of expenditure within a Practice Based Commissioning Contract for minor surgery, we undertook a review examining clinical data relating to treated patients.

The contract, which was designed to maximize the benefit of skills in primary care, enabled patients to be treated for conditions that would otherwise be referred to secondary care, closer to home, on a timelier basis and at a significantly discounted price on the national tariff.

The review identified a significant level of claiming under the contract for patients whose procedures should, in reality, have been claimed for at a lower cost as a Minor Surgery Enhanced Service.  In total excess claims in the order of £135k were identified allowing the PCT to negotiate a substantial financial recovery in settlement.
